A slap in the face

I arrived! After precisely 200 gazillion hours of traveling. 4 countries in 24 hours. Too many airplane meals. A little worse for wear. I am in Uganda. Minus half of my stuff. I had a 15 minute connection in Cairo where I had to run to catch my flight and was allowed to skip all security lines (safe?) so I assume that somehow a bag got lost in Egypt. No big deal, its just the bag that has my contacts, glasses, malaria pills, shoes, and all other medications. Nothing important there.

The other day I was reading a blog post about a woman moving from Trinidad to Uganda. In her first Uganda post she wrote, "Africa greets you like a slap in the face". Its so true. More than once on the hour long drive from the airport to the main city I have wondered why do I love it here? But then the further away I get from the main city the more beautiful everything becomes. I mean I love the capital for its nice mall and semi well stocked grocery store. But I really love leaving the capital. Buildings are less and green things are more. Pavement turns into dirt. And the sun rising over the rainforest = heaven.

  2. Thanks! Denis is setting up a PO box. Its like a ridiculous process. Needs a letter of reference and passport sized photos and a huge application form. SO sometime soonish it should be up. :)
